This painting is about something I saw in Ireland about 10 years ago, contrasted with feelings I was having about the future. Have you ever thought about your family name, all the people that had to not get eaten by some lion or that survived the plague so that you could live and breathe? It is a literal stroke of chance that we are here, that our species has made it so far. And yet nature, the rock that we live on, is much more complex and enduring than our petty 100 years. I challenge you to think of your name in 1000 years. Can you carry that thought? The future and the past, as well as the power of nature, is what is captured in this painting.
