Self Portrait with Blue Hair (2021)

 

This piece shows my face, and is the first oil painting I made late in 2021. I painted this using a mirror, and worked from shadows to highlights. Oil on Canvas , 2021 Size: 25 x 20cm, 8 x 10 inches Depth: 1 cm , ½ inch approx This is a study of my own face done from looking at my reflection in a mirror. This hair that I had for most of 2021 characterized the change that I experienced in my sobriety journey, that I wanted to have this long blue hair and I saw myself in a certain way. That way that I had seen myself was more solemn and responsible, changing myself and my emotions in a way that I took things more slowly. This painting reflects this seriousness and it is such a joy to paint the hair as blue. It is very fun to paint coloured hair !
