Smeagol Gollum

In this painting I explore my favourite character in the series, who has a self conflict so intense it keeps him alive for hundreds of years in search of his Precious the ring. I can relate to this in my own experience of hating parts of myself but loving other aspects of the same, the push and pull becoming torturous but objectively comic in the nature of the conflict being imaginary. I like that Gollum has all of these complexities in one, and that it is important to note all beings may play a role in the survival of the world however malevolent they appear.
