This work explores the idea of being watched, and of disembodied force. As philosophical as it is to say that observation changes behaviour, I think that the nature of being seen itself has changed with the rise of personal devices and connection through the internet. This idea was not around when Tolkien wrote the Lord of the Rings, but I think that the average person sees more of the world now than Sauron would see in the watchtower. The implications of the pull towards the screen are not yet known, which I know is symbolic in this painting.
